My New Home (Is Above a Toxic Former Preschool)
Via the Brooklyn Eagle from last year, I've learned that the first floor of the building that I am moving into used to house a sketchy preschool known for its noxious fumes and exposed wires. But my living room has such a nice bay window...(Oh, and did I mention it's a block from the new Trader Joe's?)

Is Your Boss a Psychopath?
While I myself don't really have a "boss" per se, I do find myself frequently talking about management styles and strategies with my many friends who have bosses. Seems to be a relative truism that most bosses are a little "crazy." Turns out, that might not be far off.
This article in the Fast Company shows that the kind of personalities who would seek positions of authority may actually be psychopaths.

On the broad continuum between the ethical everyman and the predatory killer, there's plenty of room for people who are ruthless but not violent. This is where you're likely to find such people as Ebbers, Fastow, ImClone CEO Sam Waksal, and hotelier Leona Helmsley.

Home Sweet Rental
I've listed my apartment with a broker for November 1st, and am hoping all goes well as I venture back into Brooklyn in a month. They're having open houses every Sunday, so if you know anyone (*not affected by the current financial meltdown)...

Links
A friend yesterday asked to see a few articles of mine, so I dug up some links. They're mostly short ones and I've excluded the ones which are just reporting bylines or really little things, but maybe of interest:

Wired: The Tunguska blast in fiction.
Forbes Traveler: Ayurvedic spas in India.
Forbes Traveler: Modernist architourism.

Good Magazine: Short piece about psychogeography in New Orleans.
New York Times: Sports story about a gambling NBA ref.
New York Magazine: How to buy, cook and eat a lobster.
Classics
New York Press: Eating fish out of the East River.
Providence Phoenix: Boxing story I wrote in college.

Crustacean Fixation
I'm pretty sure that Rachel doesn't know about this blog, so am posting the latest painting I've been working on, which is going to be a birthday present. It's been kind of a fun one, and it's not quite done yet. Am still trying to figure out what to do about the shadow of the tail in the back, and cleaning up little details on the inside. All in all I'm pretty happy with it, though, which is unusual for me.
